One Lucky Elephant opens in NYC & LA

We opened at Manhattan's venerable Film Forum June 8, and the film plays six times a day through June 21!  We were honored to have top elephant authority and advocate Iain Douglas Hamilton of Save the Elephants, and Joshua Ginsburg of the Wildlife Conservation Society, to answer questions after our premiere's Q&A.

Dr. Hamilton called what's happening to elephants in Africa a genocide.  He linked the rise in poaching to the rise in demand for ivory - and linked that to the rise of prosperity in China.  Iain suggested that the best hope for the survival of elephants in Africa might just be an educational campaign in China about elephants and the horrors of poaching.

Reviewers and bloggers are really getting the complexities of David & Flora's relationship, and of how we humans relate to, and treat, other species.  See Indiewire's "One Lucky Elephant isn't a Nature Story: Its a Family Crisis!"   Film Critic.com called the film "a captivating father and daughter narrative" while the Village Voice said the film "gently raises questions about the folly and hubris of a relationship that may only ever be one-sided."   Below, audience members read Manohla Dargis' review in the NY Times "The Trick an Animal Cannot Learn: How to Be Wild Again" (she called the film "sweet, heart and trunk-tugging").

Oh, and did we mention that Isabella Rossellini and Amber Heard were in our audience opening night?
